Dean's Welcome
Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences. Our Faculty was established on 1 January 2015 and, as its name suggests, is dedicated to three disciplines. The roots of our Faculty go back much further. The university’s predecessor in title, the College of Transportation and Telecommunications offered Civil and Transportation Engineering programmes as early as the 1970s. These were later joined by programmes in architecture.
The introduction of the Bologna system in higher education was accompanied by a restructuring of the programmes offered by our Faculty. As a result, there are currently three BSc programmes in Civil, Architectural and Transport Engineering, four MSc programmes in Infrastructure Civil Engineering, Structural Civil Engineering, Transport and Architectural Engineering, and a five-year MSc programme in Architecture. Since 2005, the Faculty has also been involved in the Multidisciplinary Doctoral School of Engineering, which offers doctoral degrees in Civil and Transport Engineering.
The long-term strategic goal of Széchenyi István University is to be present on the international higher education market with high-quality, English-language programmes. The first English-taught programme, the MSc in Infrastructure Civil Engineering, was launched by our Faculty in 2014. This was followed by a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, and, from 2022, a BSc double degree programme in Civil Engineering with Jiaxing University in China.
At our Faculty, we place great emphasis on collaborative thinking and cooperation with industry. We collaborate with corporate players in R&D projects, participate in various industrial contracts and conduct research in our well-equipped laboratories. This collaboration with industry is also reflected in our education, we offer dual trainings in our BSc Civil and Transport Engineering programmes.
Our Faculty staff are active in research and publication and are involved in several national and international collaborations.
We believe that the key strength of our Faculty lies in the unique way in which it embraces three closely related fields. The common denominator between the disciplines of Civil, Architectural and Transport Engineering is that each is involved in shaping the built environment around us. Our priority is to enrich the knowledge of our students by exploiting the synergies and collaborations between these fields, conducting research, and engaging with real-world industrial challenges.
